Tart

Charles T. Tart, PhD

 

Dr. Charles T. Tart has been involved with research and theory in the fields of Hypnosis, Psychology, Transpersonal Psychology, Parapsychology, Consciousness and Mindfulness since 1963. He has authored over a dozen books, two of which became widely-used textbooks; he has had more than 250 articles published in professional journals and books, including lead articles in such prestigious scientific journals as Science and Nature, and provides regular public speaking appearances.

Radin

Dean Radin, PhD

 

 

Dean Radin, PhD, is Senior Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Psychology at Sonoma State University (Rohnert Park, CA). His original career track as a concert violinist shifted into science after earning a BSEE degree in electrical engineering, with honors in physics, from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and then an MS in electrical engineering and a PhD in psychology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. For a decade he worked on advanced telecommunications R&D at AT&T Bell Laboratories and GTE Laboratories. For over two decades he has been engaged in consciousness research. Before joining the research staff at IONS in 2001, he held appointments at Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, University of Nevada, and three Silicon Valley think-tanks, including SRI International, where he worked on a classified program investigating psychic phenomena for the US government.

 

Sherman

Rich Sherman, PhD

 
Dr. Sherman received his doctorate in psychobiology from New York University in 1973. He has over 30 years experience teaching and performing research and clinical work in behavioral medicine and related fields. Richard has taught at all levels of adult education, including undergraduate, graduate and medical residency. He has also developed and taught continuing education courses for clinical professionals in both on-site and distance-based formats.
Richard is best known for his work on elucidating mechanisms and treatments for phantom limb pain, temporal relationships between changes in muscle tension and pain, and environmental studies on mechanisms and behavioral treatments for urinary incontinence. He has written numerous articles on these subjects as well as authoring and co-authoring several books. His most recent book is Pain Assessment and Intervention From a Psychophysiological Perspective, AAPB, 2004.

Sterman

M. Barry Sterman, PhD

 

 

Dr. M. Barry Sterman is Professor Emeritus in the departments of Neurobiology and Bio-Behavioral Psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine. He launched the field of clinical neurotherapy with his pioneering studies of EEG operant conditioning in animals and humans for the treatment of seizures. His major research interests have included; neural and behavioral mechanisms in epilepsy, neural substrates and cognitive correlates of EEG rhythms, self-regulation of the EEG, basic neural mechanisms of sleep regulation, and quantitative EEG Assessment.  Papers written by Dr. Sterman have been published in the journals Science, Brain Research, EEG and Clinical Neurophysiology, Experimental Neurology, Journal of Internal Medicine, Clinical Electroencephalography, Biofeedback and Self-Regulation, Brain Topography, Clinical Neurophysiology, Journal of Neurotherapy, and in the Handbook of Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology.

Grove

Robert Grove, PhD

 
Bob Grove. PhD, is the Founder of Behavior Medicine Unit, Laval University Medical School; Co-Director of Clinical Psycho-physiology Department, VA. He is in Private Practice and a Medical Unit Consultant for United States, Europe and Japan (1982 - present); Senior Fellow, BCIA; and Co-Founder, ISNR, a brain-behavior organization. He developed Dysphagia Assessment and Stroke Rehab version in 1995; is Ex-President and current Board Member of Biofeedback Society of California. Rossman

Martin Rossman, MD

 

Martin L. Rossman received his B.A. and M.D. degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Colorado native then set up practice in San Francisco, where he is a Clinical Associate in the Department of Medicine at the University of California Medical Center as well as director and founder of the Collaborative Medicine Center in Mill Valley, and Co-Director of the Academy for Guided Imagery, also in Mill Valley. Dr. Rossman has been a Diplomat of Acupuncture for the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturists since 1986, and, since 1989, has been certified for Interactive Guided Imagery through the Academy for Guided Imagery. He also serves as a member of various medical-related associations throughout the United States.
According to Rossman, imagination is the key to understanding the self, and can be used to resolve many issues of mind and body fitness, including stress. Rossman prefers the term complementary medicine to alternative medicine, noting that so many of the therapies have moved into the medical mainstream that they all play a crucial role in health. Rossman's book, Healing Yourself: A Step-by-Step Program for Better Health Through Imagery, is one of many writings he has done on imagery. Rossman is a popular speaker in both professional and public settings, and a television and radio personality discussing the virtues of imagery, acupuncture, and other holistic treatments.

 

 

Bhat

Naras Bhat, MD

 

Naras Bhat, M.D., F.A.C.P., is a physician, board-certified in Internal Medicine Immunology, and also certified in Metabolic Cardiology and Stress Management. He currently teaches at the University of California, Berkeley and was a professor of behavioral medicine at Rosebridge College of Integrative Psychology. Dr. Bhat is the author of the internationally known book, How to Reverse and Prevent Heart Disease and Cancer. He also wrote a course book for his U.C. Berkeley class, Unlearning Test Anxiety and Stress and produced two popular videos, Uprooting Anger and Meditation Prescription.
Dr. Bhat has done extensive research on how stress affects the heart from the perspective of heart-centered physiology, called cardio-neuro-immunology. This work focuses on how the heart rate and blood pressure are changed by emotions, such as anger or loving kindness. To further his research, Dr. Bhat traveled to the Himalayas to study the physiology of spiritual sages during meditation by utilizing biofeedback technology. Dr. Bhat is president of The Biofeedback Society of California (2002) and a board member of the mind-body organization, Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (www.aapb.org).

Peper

Erik Peper, PhD

 

 

Erik Peper, Ph.D. is an international authority on biofeedback and self-regulation. He is Professor and Co-Director of the Institute for Holistic Healing Studies, Department of Health Education. He is President of the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe (2005) and past President of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback. He holds Senior Fellow certification from the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America. He received the 2004 California Governor's Safety Award for his work on Healthy Computing. He has served as behavioral scientist (sport psychologist) for the United States Rhythmic Gymnastic team. He is also an author of numerous scientific articles and books. His most recent co-authored books include Healthy Computing with Muscle Biofeedback, Make Health Happen: Training Yourself to Create Wellness and De Computermens (Dutch). He is also the co-producer of weekly Healthy Computing Email Tips. His research interests focus on psychophysiology of healing, voluntary self-regulation, holistic health, healthy computing, respiratory psychophysiology and optimizing health with biofedback.You can also see their website at http://www.sfsu.edu/~ihhs
